Handcrafted Kinetic Pickups feature the art of shaping the sound based on vintage tone.
42AWG (American Wire Gauge) is the standard coil wire for Strat, Tele bridge, and humbucker pickups.
Cheap modern magnets produce "dull" and "stifled" sounds with undesirable harsher high-end frequencies. It happens because they don't allow the strings to vibrate freely and breathe. There should be a magnetic field with characteristics similar to historical magnets. Special order magnets that replicate the chemical metal fusion found in vintage pickups should be specially manufactured at extra expense. Such magnets help to replicate the impedance vs frequency curvature of vintage pickups.
Scatter hand winding is essential for producing high-quality pickup tone. Machine wound pickups generate a somewhat "lifeless", “flat”, and “sterile” sound. This means that each pickup requires considerable effort and time.
Characteristics: Thicker wire has lower resistance and greater signal strength. Most modern brands choose to use 43AWG (thinner than 42AWG) since it is less expensive and provides more output power.
Tone: 42AWG offers that classic "twangy" and shimmery nature of Strat single-coil tones, featuring more highs and mids than 43AWG. If you prefer the Middle Way with its elegant balance and musicality, this is a good pick. It combines a blend of warmth, and bite with lots of that mid-range brightness and "spank" making these classic pickups ideal for those bluesy lead lines.
There was no intention of inventing anything extraordinary that would change the industry. It all started with an attempt to restore a 1954 Strat pickup that once went dead. You could imagine that desperate feeling to get that sound back. The unexpectedly salvaged ancient 42AWG wire, as well as some audiophile industry experience, assisted in the restoration of the pickup, yielding extremely pleasant results. Over time, it evolved into a hobby just to enjoy experiments and make happy some guitar player pals. The idea of creating our own brand emerged from the realization that we could truly offer something exceptional for the guitar industry.
VINTAGE SOUND
We believe every pickup manufacturer sells his vision and taste for guitar sound. Assume you buy quality vegetables and meat and ask ten housewives to cook a soup. The outcome and taste will differ in each scenario. We offer our vision and own taste for Strat Pickups and understand that tastes may differ and situations vary.
We do not want our product to end up in a box with other unused and rejected pickups. In case you may look for other sound after trying our pickups, you will receive a full refund, guaranteed.
Significant attention was paid to the sound quality of our products. Since we enjoy the pickups of the past, we tried to make our product sound as vintage as possible.
We believe that vintage pickups sound open, warm, balanced and natural. They "breath freely " with the "full sound " going forward thus helping a player to create good music. On the contrary the modern pickups sound mainly harsh, unmusical and with that feeling as if something is pulling backwards.
We have completed thousands of tests to understand how magnetic fields work in the vintage pickups and the ones we tried to develop. It might be audacious to say but we have made our best to provide products that sound “in your face”, open, musical and capable of providing that feeling of free full breath advantage.
VOICE OF KINETIC PICKUPS
OUR PROMISE
We drew inspiration from the revered 1954s Fender single coils to create a genuinely vintage voicing with a beautiful-sounding warm pickup and a rich articulated timbre.
Tone: a blend of the fuller, thicker and fatter lower mids with the bell-like smooth high end that is never a million miles away. The sixth lower string is critical to the Strat's voice since it should sound like "Bam!" rather than "Boom!"
Character: Increased harmonic complexity expands your playing with depth, similar to a 3D effect. From the soulful and heart-melting melodies of blues to the raw fury of hard rock the added layer of vintage charm adds authenticity to your music, inviting you to a journey through the sounds of eras past.
Dynamics: The exceptional clarity of dynamic range is gracefully combined with flexible articulation, allowing to play with expression and emotion.
Output: The right amount of wire on a coil is another important factor for the sound. Modern pickups tend to overwind coils to have greater output but it reduces high-end clarity and touch sensitivity.
Hotter pickups provide a better response, making them easier to play. However, there is another side to the medal: they have increased impedance which acts as a low-pass filter, reducing the signal's treble response with dynamics and making the signal overcompressed.
Kinetic Pickups suggests an output that is similar to antique models, offering authentic sound as close as feasible while also providing excellent playability and convenience.
